Among the structurally almost identical trio of the "city-runabouts" Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo the Aygo appears the one most independent. The chassis seems to be tuned better and also the – for cost reasons – almost identical interior controls and instruments fit best to the steering wheel of the Toyota.
In situations of heavy city traffic the Aygo is a car of sympathy, which is gladly let into gaps. Fellow passengers look blank because of the unexpected additinal doors for the back seats remembering the car's overall length of 3.4 metres. Whereas the C-pillars are so wide that it's hard to keep an overview while parking inspite of the small dimensions.
Serial equipment of the tested version Club: 6 speaker audio system with CD player, pollen filter, front and rear head airbags, air conditioning. The sports package for additional 680 Euros (in Austria) includes: aluminium rims, fog-lamps, rev counter. Additional: the easy to use navigation system Tom-Tom (680 Euros) with extremely high processing speed.
Weak points of the lively little Japanese could be its price and the missing variability of the equipment. Power windows, central locking, ISOFIX mounting points and air conditioning are only available in combination with the top version. And if you leer at keen-priced competitors like the VW Fox (9990 Euros and upwards) with ESP as an extra (but exclusively three doors) in spite of its supplementary equipment, the 12.298 Euros for the Aygo feel a bit high-priced.
On the other hand, its design is very juvenescent and emotional and goes down well especially with young customers. It's a matter of taste.

Engine/Powertrain * * * *
Plus: Because of the low overall weight, the 3-cylinder petrol engine, when it operates at high rev, gives an almost sportive driving pleasure.
Minus: As usual for 3-cylinder petrol engines, the actuation is very loud.
Comfort * * *
Plus: Enough head room and footing at the front seats.
Minus: No handholds and sack coat hooks, all oddment trays without non-skid surfaces and lids, no interior handle at the tailgate, the covered area of the rear screen wiper is too small.
Driving Characteristics * * * *
Plus: In spite of the short wheel base, the steering stays nice and tight, even at high speed, comfortable neutral chassis.
Minus: Not enough noise insulation between engine and the interior, and at the underbody (loose chippings!).
Space/Variability * * * *
Plus: Astoundingly large head rooms in the second row. Seats are (only at the top version Club) 50:50 stowable.
Minus: High load sill. Missing details like hooks for shopping bags, which are in demand amongst cars of that category. ISOFIX only with the top version.
