Suzuki SX4: 4wd not a must

This cross country hatchback limousine crossover vehicle made in Hungary is not only meant to lure 4WD-freaks!

Constructed in Hungary, Suzuki´s latest purposely-built-for-Europe-SX4 is available since April 2006. The civil blend of a small ATV and a hatchback limousine ranges between the segments B and C (in other words between eg. VW Polo and Golf) with its 4,1 m and is - apart from radiator cooling and hood ornaments - the identical twin of the Fiat Sedici. Even the diesel engine and the 6-speed-manual gearbox that is exclusively available with the SX-4-diesel are made in Italy. Suzuki´s fruitful "Italian cooperation" is planned to be continued with an all-wheel mini-car (à la Toyota Aygo) next year.

The diesel unit, a familiarly felicitous motorization (including particle filter) works rather loud (due to too weak noise insulation) in the SX4 though. The performance of the petrol engine in the 1650-kilo big boy on the other hand is not what you would call a smasher. Apart from that the tight taut chassis that was adopted from the well-crafted new Suzuki Swift and which has been further developed for the SX4, is a bliss. Furthermore the seats are very comfortable, the whole vehicle is well-worked featuring plain and concise design and even offers sufficient space for passengers in the back of the car. Unfortunately the asymmetric split rear seat bench is neither reversible to an even loading area nor relocatable to vary the boot space. Driving on the freeway the wind whooshes around the rather huge and awkwardly applied exterior rear-view-mirrors. Finally the turn radius is rather ample.

Suzukis SX4 wil be available from 15.790 Euros (price in Austria) in the 2-wheel-version (without roof reling). A smart option for those who wouldn't go offroad anyway and prefer to save some money instead. The 4wd version (manually switched on and with differential lock) has a price tag of additional 2500 Euros (in Austria).

The basic version offers 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, remote control and heated frontseats. Radio and ESP are not included.

The diesel topversion with all-wheel-drive comes at 22.290 Euros (in Austria) and features ESP CD-radio with 8 speakers, air conditioning, aloy rims and satellite navigation system.

And: If you vote for the SX4 despite the even finacially quite similar Fiat Sedici, Suzuki offers and exclusive exterior color called "sunlight copper" - an orange-metallic-tone.
