Even if Skoda counts on a 100 year old motor sports history: On the streets the cars of the Czech Volkswagen rather belong to a good middle class daughter in price, which does not mind brand labels preferring to give importance to a solid carriage.
All the more fun you’re going to have cruising around with the new 200 HP Skoda Octavia station wagon (!)RS. Solely its toxic green (pardon me: Skoda-green) lacquered brake calipers behind the alloy wheels are a show for itself and you cannot refrain from laughing, standing at the traffic light beside a Golf GTI well-knowing that nothing less than scarcely 100 kilos are separating you in engine and acceleration from the Golf.
Skoda bestowed its Octavia RS Combi with a 20 HP more powerful FSI-Turbo motor compared to its forerunner. There is a 12mm lower chassis in comparison to the standard version and particular stiffeners provide a very smooth cornering ability.
In other respects the sporty station wagon shines through excellent workmanship and material in the passenger compartment. Standard for the Octavia RS beside 6 Airbags, ABS, ESP, parking - and rain sensor, climate control system, CD-radio and cool-able glove box are a leather steering wheel, 17-inch-alloy wheels, sport exhaust, sport pedal, sport seats and xenon headlights. As Extra: Seat heating, navigation, sound system with 12 boxes.
In autumn a Diesel-RS with 170 HP and 350 Nm torque.

Engine/Powertrain * * * * *
We liked: First class Volkswagen engine, which without turbo lag turns up with much flue and neat sound.
We didn't like: Consumption values of the factory are unrealistic despite 6-speed automatic transmission.
Comfort * * * *
We liked: Excellent seats, even for broad backs very good side-hold, much head and knee liberty, rear air nozzles.
We didn't like: Cosmetic mirrors are not lighted, no reading lamps at the back.
Driving Characteristics * * * * *
We liked: Very subtle aligned chassis for a sporty station wagon, very good navigation, outstanding light and precise switch able 6-speed manual transmission, nevertheless absolutely long distance capable comfort at the rear.
Room Capacities/Variability * * * *
We liked: Plentiful storage shelves in front and at the rear, low trunk sill, very good rear head rests, separable rear seat with “loading possibilitity”.
We didn't like: Indoor handhold-sap not ideal for closing the trunk.
