Peugeot 1007: Open, Sesame!

The perfect town car for shopping fanatics, who have always got both hands full

Not later then when you press the door opener, the 1007 won't be confused with the 30 cm shorter 107 by curious passer-bys anymore. Because then, if one, as it occasionally happens, doesn't hit the wrong button, the driver's door electronically slides back. And one can demonstrate how quick and elegant getting into the car can be even in the tightest parking spot while pressing the little magical button again. Though the "Close, Sesame!" part seems to last an eternity for drivers who are in a bit of a hurry. Closing the motorised door manually is quite an effort.

A great thing is that the 1007 offers house husbands and housewives the security that they can put their groceries and shopping bags onto the passenger's seat with one simple push of a button. Also seniors don't have to worry about wrenching their way into the car. The comfort while getting into the vehicle doesn't really make up for the discomfort while trying to fasten your seat belt as it is located so far in the back.

The 2-Tronic-transmission that was unavoidable during the motorisation of this car is only moderately elegant and often seems to be overtaxed.

One can intervene by using the gear paddles on the steering wheel however the process of changing the gears takes too long for individualists. Therefore one finds oneself changing gears prophylactically. For the rest the 1007 is a cute felicitous microvan that lies well in the curve and in spite of its shortness (it is e.g.16 cm shorter than the VW Polo) the small car feeling doesn't come up unless one sits in the first row and one operates the quietly puling horn.

The Peugeot 1007 Sporty 1.6 2-Tronic in motion

Engine/Powertrain * * *
We liked: The microvan with a weight of 1145 kg and the 109 hp gasoline-driven engine is strongly motorized.
We didn't like: The fuel tank (40 litres) is a bit small for the amount of fuel the car takes. Whoever wants to have the 109 hp engine has got to learn to live with the slightly weird automatic 2-Tronic gearbox.

Comfort * * * *
We liked: Very hard setting has its advantages on the highway. The seats afford good hold.
We didn't like: Seats can only be adjusted before getting into the car. The tailgate is sluggish and the back seats don't offer a lot of leg space.

Driving Characteristics * * * *
We liked: The very firm chassis permits quiet engine running at high speeds despite the size of the car.
We didn't like: Changing gears with the automatic gearbox takes long, one can only intervene manually.

Room Capacities/Variability * * * *
We liked: A lot of head space, sufficient leg room at the front and back, car feels spacious because of the long front end.
We didn't like: Little storage room because of limited variability of the seats, little usable space on the center console.

Performance * * * *
