"Wow!" That’s what you’ll come to hear first when traveling the new Nissan Micra. Missing: "Isn’t he sweet! What is his name?" – Nissan’s design was courageous in trying to make the smallest of his program cart horse, but the result seems to speak for itself. The new look of the Micra optically appears very self confident, also in action: smooth operating even on the freeway, good aligned and in the test version (1.2 Acenta with 80 PS) nearly a dwarf sportsman.
The city runabout definitely scores with its space offer. Particularly the head liberty like in the old beetle is overwhelming. The lengthwise (separable) slide able back seat is practical to handle. At cyber speed and continuously adjustable one can decide whether to pack several water bottles or to increase the rear passenger’s space.
One needs to get used to the "keyless key system" (for surcharge), where one only has to carry the radio device. If in a hurry, annoyed once in a while wondering why the car beeps bothering (steering wheel lock!?), instead of locking it. Beside that the deliberate Japan flair sonny with entire equipment can hit the charts.
The Nissan Micra in motion
Engine/Powertrain * * * *
We liked: 80 HP (test version) assume enough power for a small city runabout, despite more than 1000 kilos fighting weight.
We didn't like: In the upper speed range the noise level unfortunately rises to resemble a hornet.
Comfort * * * *
We liked: Front- und side airbag, climate control system, car computer, Radio-CD-Player with six speakers and steering wheel remote control and a secret drawer under the co-driver’s seat.
We didn't like: Weak front seat support.
Driving Characteristics * * * * *
We liked: Well attuned 6-speed manual transmission. Despite the loud engine driving feels like a big one, because the sonny runs smooth due to the large wheelbase (2432mm) even with high speed, convenient tight turn radius for the city.
We didn't like: ESP only for additional charge.
Room Capacities/Variability * * * * *
We liked: Much room for drivers with hat! Due to a lengthwise movable rear seat tall (co-) drivers and rear passengers can elude towards the trunk.
We didn't like: trunk volume sinks because of the lengthwise movable rear seat.
Performance * * * *
Top speed: 167 km/h. Acceleration: from 0 to 100 km/h in 13.9 seconds. Fuel consumption during test drive: 6.2 liters on 100 km. Price: from 14.800 Euros (in Austria, incl. taxes)
Competitors * * * *
VW Polo, Ford Fiesta, Mini Cooper, Lancia Ypsilon. Super-complete Micra is under lower third in price.
