Seven seats seven beverage holders: Made in Austria, it is needless to say that Chrysler’s Voyager still meets the US-norm for Fast Food on wheels. Therefore rear passengers might have a hard time breathing - two electric bottom hung windows controlled by the driver are their only individual fresh air supply. In a huge humming bull like a separate fresh air supply would really make sense.
Officially the Voyager falls in the category mini-van: True American-Humor, which only shows its real advantage during the first parking experiments in European cities: Instead there is a XL head liberty in the rear, XL-sliding doors, XL-shipping volume and XL-travel comfort. It’s a pity that with such an amount of space the second row seats are not movable lengthwise.
Details you have to get attuned with from a driver’s point of view: An overburdened indicator multifunction lever, upper beam headlights, wiper and spray nozzles and a clock stashed in the radio.
In addition a storage compartment or a luggage rack would be desirable, to prevent beer crates, shopping bags and suitcases from stumbling around through the whole passenger compartment while braking.
The Newcomer Voyager is available starting from 31.890 Euros in Austria and offers 4 airbags, radio-CD-player and climate control unit as standard equipment. The test model New Business 2.8 CRD with new diesel aggregate is exclusively available with automatic transmission and among other things with speed control and roof rail. As special: toned rear shields (502 Euros) and a parking sensor.
By the way: Everybody who is not in the mood to plod when in and out heaving the voluminous rear and front seats, should have a look at the new long version "Grand Voyager", where the rear seats will be foldaway to an even loading area.

Engine/Powertrain * * * *
We liked: The new 150-HP-Turbo-Diesel-Aggregate is a reasonable motorization for the “two tons heavy”, which still makes possible a speedy overtake.
We didn't like: The engine is relatively loud in the passenger compartment. Reaches scarcely under 15 liters test consumption in town.
Comfort * * *
We liked: Long-range road capable, good adjustable seats, which (especially in the second row) are proper for a itinerary dozer.
We didn't like: No rear ventilator nozzles (2nd and 3rd row), 2nd row window cannot be opened. Interior design comes across unsophisticated and obsolete.
Driving Characteristics * * *
We liked: Soft composed steering, automatic gearbox allows very relaxed driving.
We didn't like: Relatively soft chassis (rear leaf spring), not for sportive drivers or fast turnings. Brakes could respond better.
Room Capacities/Variability * * *
We liked: A lot of space because of removable front and rear (3rd row), shipping volume from 920 to 4130 liters.
We didn't like: Front seats and rear seat (ca. 30 kg!) very massive and hard to remove. Not optimal anchorage mechanism.
Performance * * *
Top speed: 185 km/h. Acceleration: from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds. Fuel consumption during test drive: 11.1 liters on 100 km. Price (Chrysler Voyager 2.8 CRD TD New Business): 36.390 Euros (in Austria, incl. taxes)
