Below this hood, a force of nature is in progress! 250 hp from 3,2 litres, 246 km/h top speed, from 0 to 100 km/h in 6,3 seconds. – Alfa Romeo has turned his 147, a compact bestseller with pleasing curves, into a lightning ball. The mighty growl that the new 147 releases when feeling even the slightest throttle touch is powerful enough for its driver to devoutly turn off the noble, standard "Bose" sound system and open up the windows despite the autumnally cold weather.
300 Nm torque (the 6-cylinder engine with 24 valves is taken from the 156 GTA), that's crazy, and it's the hottest that the compact class including VW Golf and others has presently got to offer. Crazy, but methodic: Despite all the purists' sorrows, Alfa's new little GTA is equipped with numerous driving aids in order to nip any possible krisis in the bud: ABS with brake force distributor, traction control system as well as dynamic vehicle control that prevents the car from breaking out by cutting down on the output (and can not be turned off).
Looking for something to criticise, one would have to name the car's opulent turning circle as well as its clunky 6-speed manual gear box. Other than that, the suction diffuser's square-edged vent holes sure take a lot away from the otherwise very elegant car body.
Nevertheless, it's absolutely stunning how much comfort the 147 GTA still has to offer on poor roads despite its rigid trim. Starting price for the powerhouse with standard equipment: 37.900 euros (in Germany).
